The Playful Race

It was one of those rare days. You know the kind. The sun was shining, a light breeze kept things cool...it was the perfect day. The perfect day...to scare the crap out of Nalani.

Kali crept up behind her, tail swishing in anticipation. Her friend was standing still, eyes closed, listening to the wind. The perfect moment. Sneak. Sneak.

"HEY!"

Nalani jumped approximately four feet and whipped herself around in time to see Kali racing away from her, laughing hysterically. "...Get back here, you!" Up to the challenge, Nalani sprang after her, and in no time was angling her body in front of her friend's. "I win!" she said, voice gleeful...

Until they both tumbled into the river.
Soaking wet and still laughing, they both climbed out, shoving each other aside to shake the water from their coats.
"I think we both lost that one," Kali said. Nalani could only agree.

No Critiques Please!
There is so much wrong with this. I know. Trust me. I know. xD

But I'm tired of looking at it! In any case, I've been wanting to draw Nalani and Kali together for quite some time. So. When I found the most perfect stock photo I was like OH HAVE TO USE THAT. And here we go. I put a lot more work into the background than usual...still trying to improve those. Look, the river has a bank! Joy.

And yes. I covered Nalani's eyes on purpose. After I reworked Kali's face I could have drawn her eye, but I decided to go with the theme. I also kept my sketchy lines on purpose...in some places they match color and in some places they don't. I don't even care anymore.

I like my clouds. And the shading. That is all.
